The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (Srirangam), is located just 6 km to the northern part of the city and is considered as one of the most sought-after shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Southern India. This temple is constructed on an island amidst the river Kaveri which is wrapped in coconut palms away to the north.
Situated just 2 km east of Srirangam Jambukeshwara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva which houses seven gopurams and five concentric walls. As per the legends, an elephant once used to worship the Lord beneath the holy Jambu tree because of which it got named Jambukeshwara.
